Everything I Never Told You
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng is life-changing because i learned that I can, in fact, genuinely hate a book. Especially one that I, in theory, should like very much. My dislike for other novels is nothing compared to the absolute burning hatred I have for this book. I am being so serious this book has triggered me Multiple times, once to the point of a severe panic attack when I haven't had one for over 6 months, once to the point of self harm, and at least twice to the point of causing my mood to severely drop.
Even with my personal sensitivities aside, the characters also fail to be likeable; while sympathizable from a logical standpoint with a basic understanding of generational trauma and other themes present in this book (which are themes I generally really enjoy!), emotionally it garners from me nothing but utter disdain. All this book succeeded in doing was causing me to feel more suicidal and to sympathize with anti-natalists. And I'm only a third of the way through! I keep reading, expecting it to get better, but it just gets worse! I'll update this when I finish the book.
